The true value of a 4 cent postage stamp

Hello, I'm Rick Lehman.
As a high school senior in Toledo Ohio, I knew I did not want to look at six months of snow all my life. At the time I was one of Ohio's best junior golfers.
So I wrote a letter to the golf coach at the University of South Florida, in Tampa, showing my credentials (city champ and runner-up of Ohio) put a 4 cent stamp on it, and sent it to the land of sunshine.
Almost forgetting I had sent it, three weeks later came the reply that forever changed my life.
I was awarded a full golf scholarship starting in the fall of 1965.
Doing my four years of study and playing solidly against the best collegiate golfers in the world, I decided playing professional golf was not the type of life that I wanted. Instead, I was given the job in 1969 of selling real estate at a resort that was just being constructed by some of my hometown Toledo Friends: the world famous the Innisbrook Resort!
It was at Innisbrook that I gained the experience of dealing with customers from all over the world, each one having his or her own set of needs within the real estate market. Learning the valuable lesson of listening to the customer has stayed with me for more than 35 years.
Then I was sent to Lake Tahoe to help with a resort in the Sierra Mountains, never aware of what was to be my most valuable moment-- the meeting of a lovely lady, Carol, who was to become my wife. It was her warm spirit and loving nature that endeared her to me.
From the majestic mountains of the west I talked Carol into moving back to Florida. I spoke to her of the most lovely small Gulf Coast town imaginable--Tarpon Springs.
It was love at first sight! We both realized that quaint Tarpon Springs was the town in which we wanted to raise our family. It is the kind of town where cars honk their horns to you when you walk down the street.
It was only natural that upon our arrival back to the west coast of Florida that I would seek out the potential real estate possibilities. Seeing a large need for a warm friendly hometown real-estate office in Tarpon Springs, Carol and I opened our office, Coast-to-Coast Real Estate Group in 1986.
Not wanting a huge company like your typical 50-agent franchise, Carol and I intentionally set out to have a small five to six agent company where still today, the phone is answered by a live person. The agents all bring with them over 25 years of experience in the real estate business.
Coast to Coast Real Estate Group specializes in our home town-- Tarpon Springs, Florida. There many types of waterfront-- Gulf of Mexico, Anclote River, bayou and freshwater lakes. There are rural areas for the horse lover or the in-town cracker homes within walking distance to the fine restaurants and antique shops.
During our many years of selling properties, we noticed that a lot of purchasers wanted someone to lease their properties for them when they weren't using them. Another facet of real estate occurred from the needs of the customers. Today we have a full time agent managing over 100 homes and condominiums for out of state owners.
One of Coast to Coast's biggest assets is the smart location is that we enjoy. 1988 we purchased a lovely quaint older building located at 528 East Tarpon avenue. Situated directly across the street from the United Methodist Church, people easily recognize the cute yellow and white building with its friendly atmosphere, many of the townspeople stop in just to say hi. Plenty of parking makes our office easily accessible for the customer.
Today Coast to Coast Real Estate has assumed the leadership role in real estate for Tarpon Springs. We handle all the real estate work for the leading attorneys in the town. But it's the repeat business plus the referrals from our customers that really explains the success of Coast to Coast Real Estate.
To think-- it all started with a 4 cent postage stamp!
